The Board of Health shall appoint a health commissioner and shall determine the terms of the contract of the health commissioner. The person appointed as health commissioner shall be a licensed physician, licensed dentist, a licensed veterinarian, licensed podiatrist, licensed chiropractor, or the holder of a master’s degree in public health or an equivalent master’s degree in a related health field as determined by the members of the board of health in a general health district.
The current health commissioner is Duane Stansbury. He was hired in March of 2005 to replace the retiring Dr. George Reed. Mr. Stansbury has a baccalaureate degree in Environmental Health Science from Wright State University and a Master of Public Health degree from the Ohio State University. He is a registered sanitarian in the State of Ohio and holds memberships in the Ohio Environmental Health Association, National Environmental Health Association, Association of Ohio Health Commissioners, and the National Association of County & City Health Officials.
Mr. Stansbury is a former president of the Ohio Environmental Health Association and served on several technical committees with that association. He is a former president of the Association of Ohio Health Commissioners and represents them on the Ohio Department of Health’s Pool Rules Committee and their School Rules Committee and is an active member of their Public Affairs Committee. He is a member of the Ohio State University Environmental Health Sciences Advisory Committee. In Warren County he serves on the Regional Planning Commission, Local Emergency Planning Committee, and the Child Fatality Review Board.
